Treasure Hunting

Device

The devices used to locate treasure (targets), come in many forms. They may be of a natural material (i.e., y-shaped branches), or man-made (non-electronic, electronic). The range of a "device"... used for locating precious metals, may be infinite (as far as the eye can see) or limited (manufacturer's specifications). The more expensive the device/equipment is, the greater the chance is of locating targets... as well as, saving time and money.

To achieve a greater probability of success, the user (of the device), must be thoroughly familiarized with the operational capabilities and limitations of the device. Most electronic devices used today, transmit and receive precise electrical signals based on the device settings. These devices may provide an audio response, meter read-outs, or both audio and read-out. Manual (non-electronic) devices are individually unique in how they operate/function. Most of these devices are usually "pointers"... they point to a particular spot (on a map), or if out-in-the-field... at a distant location. (Note... it is beneficial to have a compass or GPS, when under-taking the latter).

For the average weekend recreational/pleasure treasure hunter, a expensive high-end device is not financially sound or practical... you would not put in enough effort to "get your money's worth". A average priced metal detector would be sufficient. For the serious treasure hunter, sky's the limit (if you can afford it).
