In Michigan near our old farmhouse there was an old abandoned house about half a mile from our house. At night, we would see lights reflecting out the window from what seemed to be the attic. One day we finally braved entering the place. Most of the windows had been broken out by then and the wood was so dry it was cracking and full of eerie creeks. Needless to say there was only a few spots on the outside that hinted the home had once been white for most of the paint had worn off over the years. What was really strange upon entering was the fact that all the old furniture was still inside, dishes etc. were still there and even the kitchen table still had the remains of what must have been the last meal. When we went up the creaking stairs to what we thought was the attic, we found out it had been used as a bedroom instead. The really eerie things was the old black and white pictures all standing up covering the floor and making a trail that led to a mattress on the floor by the window. As we looked down at the trail, my sister noticed footsteps in the dust and as we others then looked down, we also saw the footsteps materialize and we followed them to the window (we kept seeing the light come from late at night). But, scariest of all was that the ancient mattress lying on the floor had a dried pool of blood. The stains covered over half of the mattress and had even seeped out to stain the old boards of the floor. We could feel and it almost seemed as if we heard the screams of some poor woman of the past but, were to afraid to check it out any further as we were already rushing for the doorway out of there.
Whenever I have been back to MI, I am always drawn back to that house and now trees have grown in front of the two entrance ways blocking the abandoned home from further intrusion. Yet, even standing outside gazing into the black holes that were at one time windows, the hair on one's neck will stand up and I would find my feet taking me back to my car.
