Out of Body Experience (OBE), is an interesting topic in itself. OBE is when the inner self or being of an individual, separates from the physical body or shell and moves about at will. Can an individual actually perform OBE, at will? The answer is... yes.
Is a Dream an OBE? A dream will project the feeling of being detached. The individual may actually see and/or hear themselves participating in an activity and of being a part of the scenery. This is not an Out of Body Experience... this is a dream. Dreams are borne from past activities and replayed in original or abbreviated form... during sleep/rest. Future events are based on past activities/events driven by an individual's daily interaction of activities/events, current emotion or mental state (thoughts) prior to sleep/rest.
Is a Vision an OBE? There are documented materials of individuals who are able to "see" events of the future. This seems to be a very close association to OBE but not OBE in its truest form. The individual merely is a receiver of images and does not employ Out of Body techniques.
Out of Body Experience is an ability to separate oneself mentally from the physical form/body, to a location of choice, while the individual is awake. There are no physical or verbal interaction... just the sensation of being physically there, with all senses (except speech) available. The individual's presence cannot be seen, heard nor felt, by anyone. The individual assumes an association to that of an "entity". OBE is not of the past or future... only the present.
Achievement of OBE is not easily obtained for most... it has to be practiced and honed. Remaining mentally focused is essential during OBE. The level of consciousness of an individual is at a point to that of deep sleep... where the individual's surroundings are present but has no direct bearing.
Why would one want to OBE? Curiosity is the primary reason for most. Wanting to know what is taking place with an activity where the individual is not physically present. Could an individual gain information using OBE? Yes, by being present, the event taking place would run its course with the individual being "left-on-the-sidelines" as an observer.
