I am a 32 year old Mom, with a 9 year old son. I had some experiences as a child that I don't talk about and that my mother has called "demon possession". I now believe my son experiences them. I wondered if this is common or if there is information as to how to perceive these experiences and how to react.
The most troubling experience was when I was 12, but there were many before and after. I had often seen, in the middle of the night, a dark shadow man, thin, wearing a cape and hat. I would always wake right up like someone had roused me, to see him in a corner of the room. I have woken up and heard him walking on the carpet. I screamed because of the evil I perceived since my Mom had said it was demons, he disappeared when my Dad turned on the light. He had turned my stereo off and on before, repeatedly kicked my bed when I was on the edge of sleep, and sometimes touched my feet or hair. He was very real to me but I was not allowed to discuss him. We moved many times and he always found us. Usually I would find things in my room that I felt he was "attached" to. When I threw those items away, he would be gone for a while. This has occurred less and less in my life - as I do not bring those items home if I have a "feeling" about them.
But apparently some item must be here and I don't feel it but my son does. He complains about dark "things" in his room at night and describes them much as I had as a child - like dark rat things running, or big dark shadow spiders in the corners. (I had rat and big cat shadows) Now he tells me a dark shadow man has leaned over him and tried to stop his breathing, or sat on his bed. I don't discourage him telling me, like my Mom did me, I let him know to tell me and I never punish him or the like so he feels good about letting me know. Its not often but it is happening.
