Ghosts, spirits, other beings... we simply refer to them as an entity or entities. Your reference to other beings could also mean "people - human beings" or "aliens". In this instance, yes, they can harm you mentally and physically.
Using the context of entities... no they cannot harm you, although it sometimes may seem like they can. Entities follow rules, as we all do, in that they are not permitted to ... a) inhabit a living being and b) cause physical harm. However, there is another "side of the coin". There are entities that refuse to follow the rules when it comes to causing "physical harm". These entities are far and few, but you may encounter one of these entities from time to time.
While conducting our investigations, we (Otherplane), have encountered entities that have caused physical harm to people.. here's one of them. The "Heartland Hauntings" was aired on television and Otherplane decided to conduct its own investigation. The results confirmed the television showing, as far as an entity causing physical harm.
