I experienced an OBE for the first time, and found it very frightening, not because anything "scary" happenend during the event, but simply because it happened.
I mentally caused it to happen, and then right in the middle, immediately wanted it to end, and was almost immediately returned.
I guess my question is: Is there anything to fear? I got the impression that THIS is what death is like. Can I prevent it from happening again if I so choose?
I also feared seeing something that I would not be able to prevent happening. I have read that you can choose where it is you want to go, but this occasion was a spontaneous one, and I had no where in particular in mind. I saw a quick flash of a woman and child, and "shut my eyes" if that is possible, because I felt like something bad was going to happen, and that is when I decided I wanted to return. But I don't know who the people were.
I also feel it is dangerous (for me) because I don't know what I am doing. Is this true?
I know that this letter is full of many questions, but I feel that I have not even scratched the surface. If you could respond with any information or insight, I would be grateful.

We do have members in our Otherplane's Gifted Society (OGS) who are able to OBE at their choosing. But because they do not practice it on a regular basis. They all mention a wonderful experience.
FEAR of not knowing what will happen is your concern. You see something and automatically, you are afraid and you want to stop. You have control of your OBE because it was you who initiated it. There will be times when you will dream and to you it feels like OBE because everything seemed so real ... not to mention your participation in that dream. OBE's are more controlled by the person initiating it .. whereas, dreams normally occur randomly. Dreams could also be interpreted as a Vision.
OBE's are not related to Near Death Experience (NDE). NDEs associated with death. OBE's may be associated with death if that is what the OBE'er chose. A OGS member once wanted to experience flying and then falling ... that was quite an experience ... he woke up in a sweat and his heart was beating real fast.
Remember, you have control of your OBE. To be able to OBE at will, to any location of your choosing, is an awsome gift. Continue to practice your OBE and you just might be amazed at what you can do.
