Do you have any information about entities using clocks to indicate their presence? We have a 30 day keywind clock that chimes (the wrong number of times) on birthdays and holidays eventhough we haven't wound the chime mechanism in years. It also stops prematurely on special occasions and always at either 8:58 or 1:22. It works just fine the rest of the time. We've had many other strange occurrences in our house as well, including the children seeing and hearing things and battery operated toys talking on their own.

Entities were once humans and they also have fascinations of things like toys, clocks, computers or whatever. It's just like asking where would a 4000 pound person sit... anywhere he likes. If the occurrences were consistent enough that it warrants your attention, then try talking to them. If you feel that they should not be there, let them know and they will respect your request. They are just letting you and the family know that they are there.
