I have a question that I hope you can answer. I have a friend who is asking me what is life. He wants to know if there is a purpose to life. I have tried to answer him, but my answers are not what he is looking for. Can you help me with an explanation please? I really appreciate your help.

What is Life? A very common question with varying answers. If you were to ask a clergyperson, the answer would be very defined. In that, you are conceived from male and female; you are born and breath air to live; you are nurtured throughout your younger years to survive on your own with the knowledge given you; you are taught to love, respect and be honest to all things living and at times, not living; you are taught to believe in your abilities to accomplish anything you want and along the way, strive to achieve meaningful goals and deeds; to believe that the creator is responsible for what you are and what you see; to retain a relationship with the opposite sex and bear children to carry-on after you've departed the world of the living; and to eventually reach "heaven and life-ever-after."
Here's our (Otherplane's) interpretation of What is Life? Will run along the same lines, as mentioned above, but in a different sense of the meaning. We all have a preordained purpose in life. Maybe not as pronounced as Princess Di, JFK or other famous/infamous notables of the past, present and future, but our contribution to our surroundings, whether emotional or social, will create an impact just the same. These contributions could be as miniscule as a simple greeting or a sarcastic way of commenting on things that displease us, none-the-less, it is a contribution that will affect our immediate surroundings. It will not be visible but it affects our lives on a daily basis, and that's why we have different nationalities, customs, upbringing and beliefs.
The amalgamation of these processes creates a variety of "colors" throughout our lives. These processes interlink themselves and with other processes that make the world as we see it now. Good, evil, ugliness, rich, poor, black and white. Here are some examples: If the pilot of an airplane did not care or possess the skills to fly an airplane, the airplane would crash and a lot of people would die. If there are no homeless people and runaway children, we would never know what it's like to be homeless or a runaway. If we were all billionaires, who would work for us, to let us enjoy the wants and comforts.
What is Life? or the purpose of life? is a shallow question. Try not to understand the meaning of What is Life? But rather to focus on your surroundings, your thought processes and physical actions, as you move about on your daily tasks. Focus on how these "amalgamation of processes" interact with other processes, and what the outcome is. From these observations, you will see the domino effect that you have initiated that could make life meaningful or otherwise.
As with dealings in the realm of the paranormal, all occurrences are possible and as it is with life, all processes are possible .
