Friends of mine purchased a house outside of Georgetown, California. The seller told them about some guy that wanted to search on their property for a chest of buried gold. The seller recalled the tale of the buried gold that was told by the guy and refused permission for the guy to search.

During the goldrush era in the foothills of California, Georgetown was one of the main stips on the Wells Fargo stage coach line up from Sacramento. The old stage coach road cuts across my friend's property. Late 1800's, a guy robs the Wells Fargo Stage coach about a mile west of Georgetown. Takes the bank chest (full of gold coins) and buries it under a large oak tree. The posse catches up to the guy and he is eventually hanged. Before he was hanged, he said he buried the gold about a mile outside of town under an oak.

To this day, there are no documents indicating the gold has been found. I wonder if this is just another one of those treasure myths?
